This Month in Photo of the Day: Travel and Culture Photos

The image was taken during the Carnival in the town of Jacmel, Haiti. Carnival in Jacmel is one of the most interesting cultural manifestations in Haiti and in Hispaniola. There are traditional characters that dress up in customs depicting African animals, such as lions and mystical beasts, dragon. In addition, symbolize slaves by painting their bodies in burnt oil and bright paints and dragging chains. Undoubtedly, Carnival in Haiti is one of the Caribbean’s least known cultural treasures.
